LinuxQuestions.org - FC installation do not detect onboard modem soft v92 (Motherboard Gigabyte PE1000)

Hai, I used XP and now I try to change to FC2. Installed successfully, however I cannot detect my modem. It is an onboard modem from Gigabyte PE 1000, which under XP os, it is recognised as sot v92 modem. Detail can be seen from the hardware spec (under XP - system setting). When I first installed XP, the modem is also not recognized, however Gigabyte give a software called Intel Chipset Installation Utility. After installing this, windows recognised my modem. So I asked Intel if they have linux version of this software, which they said not compatible with linux because linux do not support PnP. Could anybody give any comment and further elaborate, and most importantly give a solution so I can surf and upgrade my FC installation. Thanks,

PROBLEM STATEMENT:
LINUX Installation process, modem not detected. Used
Suse Pro 9.1 and Fedora Core 2. Both cannot detect internal modem.
Issue: Installation using windows xp have similar problem, but the
problem fixed using Intel Chipset Software installation utility version
5.0.1.1015. Do you have the software with similar function to be used in
LINUX?

I received a file e1000-4.4.12.tar to solve the problem. Is it the
right patch/replacement to the Chipset software installation utility above?

I tried to install the tar file above, but when I proceed to the 'make
install' command as directed, the computer said no such bash command
exist. Is that a defect in the tar file, or a defect in both Suse and
FC2 program? Could you please help with a solution? I have had this
problem for months already, but to no solution. So I have to keep swapping
and taking off a hard disk each time I want to swap from Linux to
Windows.

required or compatible with Operating Systems without the Plug and Play
feature, such as Windows* NT* 4.0 or Linux*.

Please contact your Linux* vendor for additional information and
troubleshooting assistance.

So what is it, is there any driver you could recommend to me? Please help....
