Fatal server error: Cannot run in Framebuffer mode - Xorg?

Hi guys,

Running VMware Workstation 7 installed VMware tools on BT4 R2
I am fairly new to linux, and I know, I should not be using backtrack 4 R2 as a linux newb - but I am picking up the commands very fast (I had to setup a squid proxy in a week about 18 months ago - never using linux before, it was challenging - havent used it since, although it has piqued my curiosity) Im solving problems pretty well (bar this one). I should know better, but i am being patient. The more I do, the more I learn and I always love a challenge. I am trying to learn pentesting through my virtual machines. anyway, here's my problem

Login: root and toor the system - I have purposely not made another user account btw as it is just for testing purposes.

startx - to start the gui interface

here is my problem - I solved it once looking at some forums, but I have now lost the link and im thinking i did not save it to init.d so that BT will start the x server automatically again.

so after startx I get this:

(==) Log file: "/var/log/Xorg.0.log", Time Tue Dec 14 18:38:51 2010
(EE) Unable to locate/open config file
(==) Using default built-in configuration (39 lines)

Fatal server error:
Cannot run in framebuffer mode. Please specify bus IDs for all framebuffer devices

giving up

xinit: Connection refused (errno 111): unable to connect to the X server
xinit: no such process (errno3): server error
xauth: (argv):1: bad display name"btisdagr8est:0" in "remove" command

from this message I get that either I have stuffed up the Xorg.config file somehow - perhaps from my fix-splash command or when I changed my resolution in the VM, I am uncertain. All I know is that I need help for this error, I can use the konsole, but I always like the Gui as it makes adding other konsole commands easier (i find)

Anyway please help

Alex
