If you're new to Linux why would you compile OpenOffice from source? From my FreeBSD experience I remember OpenOffice being the worst thing to compile yourself I encountered. Why not just download the packages from linuxpackages.net? Since the package there just consists of precompiled binaries I guess it should work fine in Slackware 10.1.
Hehe, it took five minutes to download, 5 minutes to install and it works fine with my Slackware 10.1 release. Thanks a lot, I don't know why I didn't try the package out first. Stupid hybris, thinking I could install from source =)
