faster recovery after "suspend" ?

hi
I open the lid of my laptop (lenovo thinkpad, intel i7, debian stable, gnome, 2.6.32-5-amd64) after being suspeded (to RAM), and the screen reappears almost immediately.
But then I need to wait 5 long seconds to have the keyboard working and 10 infinite seconds to be able to move the cursor with the touchpad again.

Do you have any suggestion on how to improve this and have the system working immediately (faster) after suspension?

Hello,

I would recommend to install a more recent kernel. I've upgraded from 2.6.?? to 3.5.4 recently (used also some 3.2-versions) and I feel that such processes like booting or hibernate are faster with the new kernels.

I'm using a Lenovo thinkpad (AMD, Subnotebook) and a Samsung (AMD, Laptop) and use hibernate often with both of them.

markush is right, I think. I also use a Lenovo, use two x86_64 disros (Ubuntu and openSuse) on it, but my laptop is very old intel dual core, still I don't face that problem in Gnome or KDE. Updating kernel is suggested. Also, check your ibus (if you use it).
