Unhappy Faster copying files in linux from one disk to another

->I want to copy a file in linux system from one disk to another disk.....now the problem is...i have got a million files in my one directory of disk-1....i want to make the process of copying faster.

->if i zip it.....the time i am saving there...is used in uncompressing them.
->parallelizing the task may also not help because acc to me the disk is having only one head.....so reading from disk anyhow will be sequentially only

I'd use rsync but making it faster means making your OS faster and if possible your hardware...
