Question FastCGI

I have read some articles comparing FastCGI and normal php, but still I do not know their advantages and disadvantages to choose the right one for my server.

I just installed fcgi via yum install on Fedora. As a result, the website is slightly slower, but the CPU usage is much lesser.

I am curious to know that these are actual behaviors of fcgi or are in my case due to other server modifications.
