fast search tool.


mandrake 10.0
for searching the files is ver hard.
it taked long time even not show all file.

is there any better and powerfull tool for desktop.
find and gnome-search-tool are boring.

i mean where to download google search engine for linux.

The fastest find tool depending on filesystem in Linux is the find utility. As a user type `find / -iname 'file name' 2>/dev/null`. With in a few seconds you should see a bunch of files whiz by. You should learn find just in case you need to use it in the future.

Xfce4 comes with a good simple search tool.

Google search tool is only for Windows.

slocate / locate is also great for finding straggler files or the like.

I'd reccomend using locate, but first, you need to create the database. Run the command
Code:
updatedb
as root, then just use
Code:
locate FILENAME
to find the files.
