Faliure to boot from mint 13 disc
I was running Mint 12 mate and wish to install mint 13.
The dvd will not boot up to install on my HP compaq 615. It simply hangs in the COMPAQ opening screen and won't even accept esc to the bios. |
May be something wrong with dvd disk itself. Did you tried to boot another machine from the same DVD by any chance?.

I to have had these problems with a new version of an OS not installing from flash or DVD. I had to install an older version and then upgrade from within to the newer version. This process takes a very long time. I comment here to see other solutions that will show up.
Thank you for this thread. |
Thankyou for the response.
Yes I have used the same dvd to boot up on a desktop running XP. I do have Wnindows 7 installed on my laptop. |
Go out and buy a high quality dvd and try it again burning at slowest speed you can.
Can we assume it does have a dvd reader? Test another distro on dvd? If you can't get to any part of the boot process we assume it is some boot order or boot device issue. |
Ran out of time and reverted to my old mint 12
Here I am again,
I had to leave the problem for some time but still have no solution. I was able to start the installation from within Windows 7 during which it offered an option to install missing boot files. This was done and I could then start the install over again. In the final stage of installation it froze once again because the following file was missing: \linuxmint\winboot\wubildr.mbr. At this point I gave up and reinstalled my old Mint12 and will wait for Mint14 Thank you for your suggestions. If needed I will try them next time round. Offie |

I too have a HP Compaq 615 and I have to say that the DVD drive in that machine is very picky. The one in my laptop refuses nowadays to read DVDs at all and has some problems with CDs, but I couldn't care less, since that machine is fine with booting from USB or SD-card.
Since the HP Compaqs are the low-cost branch of HP I haven't really expected something else, but I can live with that until that machine will be replaced. |
