Failed to start X server
 

Alright so I am a complete Linux noob and was really excited when I got my ubuntu 6.06.1 LTS disks in the mail. So I stuck it in thinking that this would be way to easy to be true and......it was. I got the boot screen and clicked the boot/install or whatever. It started loading things and then it gave me this error "Failed to start X server(your graphical interface) It is likely that it is not set up correctly. Would you like to view the X server output to diagnose the problem <YeLinux Ubuntu 2.6.15-26-386#1PREEMPT

and lower down it says...

I can't press enter on ye(which im guessing is yes cut off)

Please remember I am a noob at this so I don't know how to put in code and such...yet

Not much experience with Ubuntu, but I think that the command is dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg. This command will setup your x server and hopefully get you up and running. So, at the command line type, without the quotes, 'sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg'. Enter the password, which should be the same as your users'. You can probably accept most of the defaults. When you are done type 'startx' and see if it worked, or reboot and see if it worked.

where is the command line? is it at the bottom?

When there was an error starting x it usually drops you at the command prompt. Mine, in Mandriva, looks like this: [glenn@dhcppc2 ~]$ -This is the command line and it is where you type your commands.

You know, I've had very similar trouble with my Ubuntu install. In my case I need to hit CTRL/ALT/F1, all at the same time to get a command prompt. Try that.
