Failed to copy installation files

Hi all,

I am a totally newbie yet learning hard on installing the Redhat Enterprise Linux Update 4 on my machine.

I tried 2 methods, thru the CD ROM and HTTP Virtual Server.

Both methods resulting in file-copying/reading failure for the file named hwdata-0.146.22.EL-1.noarch.rpm.

I have even tried to use Daemon Tools to mount the .iso installation cd on my virtual server using Microsoft Windows XP Professional but still failed. Yet it still couldn't be copied from the virtual drive to the local hardisk as well.

I actually downloaded the evaluation packages from the redhat official website, thinking that there shouldn't be any problems for every CDs' packages. However, the failure message told me that "packages may be corrupted". Why is it a coincidence that i couldn't copy the same files from the installation CD2 onwards?

Hope my problem declaration is clear enough. Also, hopefully the gurus could guide me.

Thank you very much.

could be anything.

my suggestions:

1) don't use redhat, use debian or ubuntu.
2) buy it off-the-shelf and get support to help you with the install

ubuntu

I think someone new to linux should use ubuntu or xubunu, it's so much easier, and nicer and it has a massive community to boot.
Also it's probs a corrupt disk.
