Eye Candy
Heya all...didnt know where else to post my question, so I put it here.
Anyhow, what Debian distro has the most eye-candy by default after installation? I love Debian, and I like the look of, say, SuSE's Gnome, but I dont like RPM, so Im looking for a Debian distro that looks like that - all flashy n stuff. Thanks in advance! Tek |
gnome is flashy?
personally i think KDE and Gnome are kinda ugly, check out Fluxbox, that's a decent looking one, quite configurable with themes and stuff |
Pretty much Gnome is Gnome, KDE is KDE from one distro to another.
I don't use either. I concern myself more with performance and stability than eye candy. |
And fluxbox is whatever you want it to be.

KDE and GNOME are desktop managers, fluxbox is not. Desktop managers in general has a bigger memory signature because they have a lot of useless/useful stuff in there. Personally, I think if you have an older comp. with < 256MB memory, it doesnt make much sense to run KDE or GNOME on it. For eye candy, download and install Karamba for KDE.

Well, Kubuntu is the only distro I know of that uses KDE by default, which in my opinion is all "eye candy." As others have said, this is just a desktop environment. You can add as much "candy" as you want to any distro or desktop.

cool, very interesting!

Check out Enlightenment as a DE on Debian. It's not default on any distro, but it's probably as flashy as you can get (all those slidey buttons, and oooh, shiney). KDE doesn't look like eye-candy to me, it looks like XP. To me, eye-candy is not something that is everywhere else, it's that something different that makes people go "Oooo, what's that? That looks cool!"... and THAT is Enlightenment.

I personally would try as many of the above suggestions as you can. Find the enviroment that works best for you, and stick with it.
GNOME to me isn't all that flashy, and doesn't have many "desktop customization" features. KDE, Enlightenment, and most of the above mentioneed are very customizable. www.kde-look.org www.gnome-look.org Karamba in KDE is also very nice, once it's up and running; and if you've got the resources for it of course. |

Neither does enlightenment, but I think my screenshot has a fair amount of eye-candy and is very lightweight.
