Extreme Noob Here! Help

Ok heres the deal, I want to switch to linux completely ! Ive used Windows for my whole life and I am very good in programming with vb6 and c+ but that doesnt matter, lol, cuse now i want something new so ive decided to try out linux. I ve been reading and I heard that redhat was good for noobies like me, so i downloaded the three iso's burned them to cd's, I installed everything it went perfect. Now when i start up my computer I get a screen is says Redhat9.0 and it has a login screen with userneame, i put in my username, then i put in my password, then it starts up and all i get is a command prompt shell thingy? Now i finally figured out how to view my files and get on the internet running mozilla. Now I would like to no how to run my windows games, my friend at school said that you can recompile the games or something and I would like to know how to do this , and i've also heard of something called winex? were its like easier to play windows games? Could somebody please give me some kind of source of info that is free that I could learn how to install my windows games and learn how to do more stuff with my linux? If anybody could help me it would be greatly appreciated! THANK YOU :Pengy:

Your choices in order of ability to play games:
www.winehq.org <- Wine, the free Windows Emulator
www.transgaming.com <- The Easy_To_Get_If_You_Pay_$$$_Every_Month Windows Emulator, WineX (hard to find if you don't pay 'em). It's better at games compared to Wine
www.netraverse.com <- Win4Lin, Emulates Win98
www.vmware.com <- emulates a whole pc.
Dual booting <- well you can't get better than the real thing :)
