Extract .tar.bz2 files


I need help extracting files on my desktop

The name of the files is: Mothers Cookie Recipes.tar.bz2.001


I am using Ubuntu 10 and I am not sure what commands to use.

Rename the file and leave off the .001, so you end up with the file name similar to filename.tar.bz2.
Then try the command:

tar xjvf fielname.tar.bz2
Read the tar manpage for more info.

I forgot to mention at the command line, you may need to escape the spaces in the filename with a backslash, like this:

some\ file\ name\ with\ spaces.tar.bz2
