"Extra-newbie" Questions
Hi everyone,
I'm _very_ new to linux, and I've got a very...basic, question. I'm going to try and instal slackware linux on my old computer but when I went to do this, I ran into a problem, makeing an instal CD. Exsactly what files should be on this disk? The only operating systems I've installed have been widows and dos, and with those all I needed to do was put in a Cd/disk and run a setup program. Also, do I need more than one cd/disk to install, like a cd with all the files and a boot disk, or something? Like I said, I'm very new to all of this : ) Any help would be great, thanks! |
if your computer is old then yes you will need a boot disk and a cd but if the computer is new enough to be able to boot off of a cd directy then all you need is the cd, if thats the case then simply download the slakcware 8.1 iso and burn that to a cd (directions at www.linuxiso.org) and put it into the cd drive if you need a boot disk then you can get one off of the slackware site and use a program like rawwrite to create it
