External hd - "HP Personal Media Drive"
I'm new to linux (sort of) and right now I'm having some issues with mounting my ext. harddrive. The problem is that it's not connected via USB. Instead you stick the hd into the computer like this http://common.ziffdavisinternet.com/...i=85663,00.jpg
Any ideas on how to find it? I've tried dev/hd* and dev/sd* with no luck. Maybe I need drivers... One solution is to use the USB-cable and mount it like a normal ext hd. Can someone please tell me how to do that? Thanks // Magnus |
Before inserting the device, open a console and run as root or with sudo, depending on your distro:
# fdisk -l Then with the device inserted rerun fdisk -l again. That command will list all hard drives and their partitions that the system recognizes whether mounted or not. See if the output changes when the device is inserted. |
Yes, it worked! Thank you. It was dev/sdb5. I'm using slackware btw.
