Question External Disc(windows), is it just plug & play?

Hello. Did a fresh linux installation the other day. So, I'm quite new to linux.

Got a external disc with some movies on it. The filesystem on it is ntfs(or something, windows anyways).

Can I just connect it to the pc(usb), and run it? Or do I need some programs?

Depends on your distribution, I'd say. Chances are that it will be
picked-up and mounted read-only automatically.

Cheers,

Every usb hd I've used so far has showed up as /dev/sda so maybe try
the following command from a console as root:

Code:
mount -t auto /dev/sda1 /mnt/some_mount_point
