extending pv/vg on same disk in VM

Hi,

So we installed OS on

Code:
/dev/sda-----> 60GB
/dev/sda1---->/boot
/dev/sda2----> LVMs  ---50GB
(VM box)

Then we had to add more space
Code:
/dev/sda  ------>90GB

now
Code:
fdisk -l
see disk as 90GB

but
Code:
pvdisplay
pvscan
pvextend
dont make new 30GB part of PV/VG.

Any ideas.

so did you change the partition boundaries of /dev/sda2? or did you create a new parition /dev/sda3? or add a new disk?

Well, you haven't done anything to the partitions yet from what i see. Create a new partition /dev/sda3 on that disk, then add it to the volume group (vgextend), then extend the lv (lvextend -l +100%FREE).

then resize the filesystem using resize2fs/gfs2grow (whatever's appropriate for your filesystem basically)

If your pv is the partition /dev/sda2 then as you haven't added that space to sda2 pvextend isn't going to do much.

I see you point.

Also I was about to do, from fdisk,

Code:
delete second partition
recreate second partition with full size
write changes to disk
But then I playes safe and created /dev/sda3 and added it to current
Code:
vgextend VG  /dev/sda3
Thanks for your helpl
