EXT2-fs error (device sdal)
 
Hi, my brother's laptop today have started with this error, and i don't know what it means and what i can do for fix it. 'cuz the laptop already is unworking. thx

the full message is:
EXT2-fs error(device sdal):ext2_lookup: deleted inode reference: "Numbers"

Does your brother have a backup?

Can you boot from something else other than the internal hard disk drive (HDD)? Maybe a bootable USB flash drive (UFD a.k.a. USB memory stick), USB HDD or DVD?

The standard HDD failure recovery procedure is to image the drive to somewhere else (because attempting to repair the original is likely to make it worse) using something like dd or ddrescue and then attempt repair of the copy using fsck and, if that does not work, try to recover the files using something like photorec.
