expert needed !!! SIS5513-IDE Controller

hi there

i have a gericom webboy whitch i have bought (used) a few days ago.my problem is that linux crashes at various points and displays as an result the following errors:

hda:dma_intr:status=0x51 {DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
hda:dma:instr:error=0x40 {UncorrectableError },LBAsec=19483831,sector=19162528
end_request:I/O error,dev 03:03 (hda), sector 1916528

and this a few times more with differend sectors.
after linux has crashed while rebooting ,linux starts fsck whitch finds even some more "uncorrectable errors" again,after that i have to reinstall and all starts again *uff*

my questions is:

while rebooting i recognized the following term:
"SIS513: not 100% native mode,will probe irqs later"

what about that? is there any possibility that this errors have anything to do with this sis-message??
i also tried to install windows but win2k and winxp crashes during formating the HD (both at 79 %!!!)
xp also has an option that allows you to do a so called quit-format,i checked that and it worked but as xp started scandisc at its first boot scandisc told me that i have some bad clusters,now xp is still doing scandisc but it takes a pretty long time,an hour right now.
well actually it seems to be pretty obvious that my HD is garbage but is there any tiny-winy possibility that sis5513-controller doesnt work probably???

:newbie:

thx for taking time for my compu-stuff

There have been some problems in the 2.4 kernel getting ultra 100 dma working on the SIS chipset. Try a google(sis 5513 ide linux) and you may find some problems that match yours, hopefully with solutions.

but ive even disabled DMA at the startup (lilo) and in with an entry in the /etc/rc.d/boot.local

==> "hdparm -d0 /dev/hda"
windows doesnt work properly either....
