excited at my first package!

yey! i have succeeded in setting the boot options in my new distros - my next step is media - have downloaded the realplayer .bin to my desktop, but the first instructions on reals site say

Ensure that the .bin file you downloaded is executable. You can make the .bin file executable by running the "chmod a+x RealPlayer10GOLD.bin" command from a terminal window.

when i run this command in the terminal it says it cannot access it - no such file or directory - do i need to move it to a default folder?

i need real to listen to the good ol' beeb...

thanks!

i know suse 10 has it by default but i dont use the suse machine for media!

when u open the terminal, you will probably be sent to your home directory (/home/userName) you need to use the cd command to move to your desktop
ie: cd desktop or cd /home/userName/desktop

then you can use the command to make it executable

Note that "desktop" is not the same as "Desktop". So, hugeness, you may want to try "cd Desktop". Also, you don't need to type the whole path to a directory, if it is in the one you're currently in, e.g. as nadroj says, you'll start off in your home directory, so you can get to Desktop by just typing "cd Desktop". You can of course use the whole path if you want.

thanks - i'm in the Desktop dir - that seemed to be okay, although it just went to a blank prompt (should i have had a success message?) now when i try the next stage - 'type "./RealPlayer10GOLD.bin" it says error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.5: cannot open shared object file: no such file or directory.

okay - got it running on fedora core 4, had to guess to configure system-wide symbolic links? Y

no joy with Ubuntu, moving to Ubuntuforums.org - seems there may be some issues with breezy badge and realplayer setup.

thanks for getting me started peeps!
