evolution mail will not send mails


each time a mail is to be sent a window opens saying " ERROR WHILE PERFORMING OPERATION" AND "COULD NOT SEND MESSAGE:BROKEN PIPE.

I AM RUNNING UBUNTU 8.04 WITH GNOME DESKTOP 2-22-3

I'll need more info to be sure but first I would ask if you set up your SMTP server? Are you trying to use this with Exchange, IMAP or POP? Are you trying to use this with a service like Gmail or Yahoo mail? Do you have a firewall? There are really a lot of reasons that this would happen so it would be hard to help you without more information.

i'LL START WITH WHAT I KNOW. I'M USING HOTMAIL. I'M HOOKED UP IN THE OFFICE.THE INTERNET IS 1.5 I REALLY DON'T KNOW ABOUT SMTP,IMAP OR POP. WHERE CAN I VERIFY THIS.

To use HotMail's POP service you have to set up a pay account. See this link: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Ho_do_you_...n_email_client

I would suggest if you are not totally married to that address to sign up for a Gmail or Yahoo account. I use Gmail and configuration for this sort of thing is quite easy and they have step by step instructions.
