Evolution mail stuck in "Search Folders" mode?

Hi folks.

I'm using Evolution 3.2.3 as a mail client under Fedora 16 on an EeePC. Yesterday the Eee hibernated while loading mail messages and when I restarted it and opened Evolution back up, rather than seeing the regular folder structure (inbox, draft, sent, etc) and list of messages in the selected folder as usual, I'm being shown a "Search Folders" screen which I have been unable to clear. I've gone through the options on all of the drop-down menus (File, Edit, View, Message, Folder and Search) and checked Evolution's Help file as well as searching threads here but without success (yes, I have switched it off and on again - several times - and each time it's this "Search Folders" view which loads up).

Actually searching for messages which I know were in there before the hibernation event brings up the result "No message satisfies your search criteria", so I guess it's possible that the folder structure at the very least has been corrupted - but I still seem to have a complete Contact list, albeit one which isn't displayed all at once but which can be searched and returns results which I would expect.

Before I bite the bullet and re-install Evolution, can you please let me know if all that's needed is to toggle this "Search Folders" screen off, and if so, how?

Thanks in anticipation,

David

Question

And a little bit later...

I've run into the same problem on 3.42.0 (by Flathub.org) on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS. Any chance you found a solution to this that doesn't involve re-installing?

Thanks

Found solution: Press and HOLD shift+ctrl+q. Nothing else worked but holding those three down for a few seconds cleared the search and Evolution is now back to normal.

evolution on a netbook that was a little weak even in 2012, really isn't such a good idea.
(OP was probably just experiencing CPU/memory/I/O overload)
I'd use claws-mail if I were you.
