Evolution 3.6.2 and linuxMint 14 display unusually slow performance

I've used many versions of Fedora, and several Mint. Recently upgrading to Mint14 Cinnamon. However, I'm experiencing from 1-40 second delays when I click 'send' on a 6k email with no attachments. When I've added a contact in the contact list evolution froze and I had to kill the process. Since I've used evolution with many flavors of linux....I'm wondering if this version has issues with Mint14? I re-installed evolution and that helped but hasn't solved the problem. Also backups will help - but who wants to do backups 3 times a day? My hardware is an IBM thinkpad T61 with intel centrino duo processers (T7300@2.00GHz) Linux Kernal is 3.5.0-17 64 bit.
Thanks!
