evil sound drivers

hey fellow nerds and little nerdlings!
i have a slack 10 setup on my pII 450 w/Matrox Millenium g200. my setup is like this:
windows 2k: /dev/hda1
linux root: /dev/hdb3
linux boot: /dev/hdb1
swap: /dev/hdb2
128 mb ram, ess audiodrive sound card
The sound has given me nothing but problems. i can't get any sound at all w/in kde. i tried suse, and it had a sound driver for my board, but when i wiped it for slack, slack had none. i also try to play quake 2 on my computer and i get a message like this:

Sound initialization......
opening /dev/dsp
/dev/dsp does not exist

may a holy penguin angel come to my rescue.....*augh!!!*
