Ever since I installed Xubuntu 15.04 desktop image is distorted
 

It has a black vertical line and the rest of it is pixilated (I don't know if it's actually pixilated but that's the closest term I could use to describe it). See screenshot.

I can remedy it once I turn the computer on but any idea as to how it can be normal and retain the screen image I give it?

try updating the graphics driver.

Thanks Fortitude but isn't the graphics driver supposedly updated with the kernel?
