Event tracking

Hi there,

Im a relatively new linux user, and a experianced windows system administrator.

Just diving into the linux administration for the first time and i have this question.

Is there a linux type of event viewer (at the commandline level) where you can see if your hardware is functioning properly and see if the system is generating any errors, or on the other hand, running smoothly.

Thanks in advance,

s3bas

Rather than windows, linux is more clearly reporting system events processor usage, memory usage, hardware interruption kernel module interruptions etc.
For system generating errors or some other events related to the system information. Refer the all logs which are recorded under the /var/log area
To check the system top, sar, free, vmstat etc are the most popular commands to utilize system performances.
