ethernet not working under mandriva 2008 on laptop

Well, I've never used linux before but I needed a change from windows. SO, I got mandriva 2008 and got it all working on my laptop, but for a few problems, one of which is that I can't get internet working. I'm a total newbie so if you could explain clearly, that would help

thx

try tools>systemtools>configure you re computer>network &internet>network center
Do see you're eternet , try to configure it.
Do not know you use PPPoE or DHCP
If DHCP than it DHCP IP Dynamic

I don't have a led for that on my laptop, is there any other way of finding out?

Do you "loggon" your dsl through User name and password?? if yes then Click at "new" button and choose DSL connection setup and follow the steps accordingly and when you are finished with the setup dont forget to activate that new connection which should be on the list.

If it is always on then you got to give your IP address, gateway and DNS (in most of the cases it is automatically detected).

Keep posted.

thx a lot for the efforts, but my ethernet works fine while used on another modem, with another isp, so I can probably get it to work by myself.

thanks again
