Eth0 does not seem to be present.....It is.

In Fedora Core, a fresh instalation, at the startup it canot detect eth0. It says its not present. What do you think is wrong? How can I fix it? Also, I need to get my NVIDIA drivers. 3D acceleration does not seem to work.

I'll take the second question...

I just completed a FC2 installation with a GeForce FX5200. Upon completion I was w/o open GL functionality. I found drivers for linux on the nVidia site. http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_d..._1.0-6106.html

Be aware, you need to follow the readme instructions under the section "EDITING YOUR X CONFIG FILE". It's not that complicated.

With regards to the non-responsive NIC, try these commands and post the results. It will give a starting poing towards finding a solution for you

lspci
ifconfig

Could be just a driver issue, but without additional information it's tough to say.

Good luck!

Chris

What does "it is" mean in that context?

That you do have a ethernet card?
That the interface is actually up?

Does eth0 get listed in dmesg, are there any
references to network devices showing up?
What about lspci and lsmod output? :)

dmesg, lspci, lsmod are console commands. Open up a text console window and type the command followed by the Enter key. lots of text will be displayed so you might just want to post the results.

Do you know the manufacture and or model of ethernet card is installed in the computer?

GR20 you need to slow down and do some reading. What I would do is download knoppix 3.4{from windows} and burn it.You need to burn it as a image, the knoppix site will tell you how. Then see if knoppix gets you on the net.If it does then practice some of the commands plus you will be in a linux system so you want have to jump back and forth.
