/etc/hosts and Vigor Router

Im running fedora core 2, and have a problem that when logging in im warned that the hostname "Vigor12" could not be found blah blah blah....

I've tried adding it to the etc/hosts in afew ways:

192.168.1.1 Vigor12

127.0.0.1 Vigor12

192.168.1.12 Vigor12

However rebooting with any of these results in a hang at sendmail while starting up.

Im pretty sure that the Vigor12 thing is also affecting performance, as certain web related things are laggy.

The router assings IP using DHCP.

Anyone has any ideas id be gratefull.

Many thanks.

EDIT:

terminal also shows [meh@Vigor12 meh]$

Slow ...

So you have verified that the DHCP process works,
the PC is getting an IP and a host-name assigned?

If you're successful, does the DHCP process set-up
the route via the router as well?

What output do you get from
ifconfig
and
route
, both run as root one by one?

Cheers,
Tink

I've managed to sort the Vigor12 hostname by adding it to the localhost line.

DHCP assings the ip addy fine.

Not sure what you mean by

The things i consider to be "slow" are:

Websites loading slow throu the default browser ocasionally.

FTP'ing to another machine on my network, huge lag, then finally connects.

Viewing php/mysql web pages from another computer on the network.

Many thanks.
