Question error with php install?

Hello.

I chose to install apache/php/mysql when I installed RedHat 8. I have verified that apache is running, in addition, I have verified that mysql works with php via various php pages in addition to the phpmyadmin being installed. I have tested my my php with the following pages:

test.php: contains the phpinfo() and it shows a list of all the properties and such
testdb.php : written to verify that php can communicate and log into mysql

Both of these work and my question is I've read that I probably have php installed as a module and that it might need to be installed as an interpreter? I'm a bit confused b/c I thought the php installation was supposed to be either or. In addition, I was under the understanding that if I was able to get info with the phpinfo() then that pretty much verified that php was installed correctly.

Can anyone shed some light on this matter? Is there some way that I can verify that I am able to run php scripts?

Thanks for your time.

From the sounds of it, you are working perfectly. If the php files that you put up went through without a hitch, then everything is fine. Would you like more information on options for installing PHP? I can either post you some links or some information...

Hi Wolven.

Thanks for your reply. I was also under the assumption that things were working ok. I just wanted to verify that the server as good to go before I went and questioned the source of the script in question, that being (http://www.nucleuscms.org/).

Do you know of other methods that I may triplely verify that I am able to run php scripts?

Thanks again for your reply.

Also, I've made sure to add/edit the following to httpd.conf:

====================
LoadModule php4_module modules/libphp4.so

AddType application/x-httpd-php .php

Action application/x-httpd-php /php4/php

ScriptAlias /php4/ "/usr/bin/"
====================

Now, when I try to test php pages, I just seem to get jumbled garbage. I don't believe "Action" or "ScriptAlias" were defined before. Are these 2 needed to be able to handle php scripts? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated?

Thanks for your time.

Okay, let me make sure I'm clear. :_)
It was working fine, you wanted to make sure, and now it's just showing garbled text? Sounds like you need to back up a step or so. As for testing it...

Code:
<?
 phpinfo();
?>

Is the standard one.
If that comes up, PHP is working. If it doesn't, it's not.

Ok.. thanks for your patience wolven. If I comment out the "ScriptAlias" and "Action" statements in the http.conf, it's working fine again. Is the "ScriptAlias" and "Action" statements needed in the httpd.conf in order for apache to process is php scripts?

I really appreciate your help and patience.

The issue has been resolved. It was an issue with the "short_open_tag" option in php.ini. For the particular script in question, this needed to be "On". Thanks again for your help.
