Error while installation of a HSP56 Micromodem

Hi @ all!

I know that there are a lot of threads about how to install such a modem but I could not find an answer for my problem. I checked out which chipset is on my modem, downloaded the driver-package pctel-0.9.6.tar.gz, unziped it and ran :
"./configure --with-hal=pct789"

And every time I did these steps I got this "error-message":

linux:/home/Robattack/modem/pctel-0.9.6 # ./configure --with-hal=pct789

I'm running SuSE Linux 9.0. My kernel is an athlon optimized 2.4.21-99.
I've also installed the kernel source and I've also tried an older version of
the modem-driver.

Now I really dont know what to do! Is there anybody who can help me? Or anybody with the same problem?

Thanks a lot !!!!!
