error: vlc requires: libdvbpsi.so.6()(64bit) etc.

Hello,

I am trying to install vlc-player, but I get this error:
Error: Package: vlc-core-2.0.8-3.el6.nux.x86_64 (nux-dextop)
Requires: libdvbpsi.so.6()(64bit)
Available: libdvbpsi-0.1.7-1.el6.nux.x86_64 (nux-dextop)
libdvbpsi.so.6()(64bit)
Available: libdvbpsi-0.1.7-1.el6.rf.x86_64 (rpmforge)
libdvbpsi.so.6()(64bit)
Installed: libdvbpsi-0.2.2-2.el6.x86_64 (@linuxtech-release)
Not found

I've checked on the internet, and it seems that one of the most common problems is related to bad repos and el5 packages installed on el6 (I have Centos 6.6). I can confirm that I don't have any el5 packages installed, as rpm -qa | grep el5 doesn't display anything.

I have no idea how to get around this problem and what to start with exactly. These are my repos, if there are of any help. Dropbox, elrepo and adobe are disabed (enable=0), but I did use them all in the past.

adobe-linux-x86_64.repo CentOS-Media.repo epel.repo mirrors-rpmforge-extras test
CentOS-Base.repo CentOS-Vault.repo epel-testing.repo mirrors-rpmforge-testing webtatic-archive.repo
CentOS-Debuginfo.repo dropbox.repo linuxtech.repo nux-dextop.repo webtatic.repo
CentOS-fasttrack.repo elrepo.repo mirrors-rpmforge rpmforge.repo webtatic-testing.repo
I also tried yum clean all, but to no avail.

How are you trying to install vlc? What package are you using?

vlc is in the rpmforge repo, if you add that to your system (make sure you use yum-plugin-priorities!) you should be able to just do a simple "yum install vlc"

For more on yum-plugin-priorities:

Sorry for the late reply. Only now was I able to find the time to solve the issue. But I would still really want to solve it.

I am trying to install it through the yum install vlc command.
What I did was to add this line exclude=libmodplug in the /etc/yum.repos.d/epel.repo, as suggested in your link, ardvark, but to no avail. Same error occurs.

I am using yum plugin priorities, but I haven't configured anything. /etc/yum.conf does contain plugins=1.

Any other suggestions are welcome.

P.S. In case this helps:
Quote:
[root@oberflaechlich yum.repos.d]# yum list | grep libdvb
libdvbpsi.x86_64 0.2.2-2.el6 @linuxtech-release
libdvbpsi-debuginfo.x86_64 0.1.7-1.el6.nux nux-dextop
libdvbpsi-devel.x86_64 0.1.7-1.el6.nux nux-dextop
libdvbv5.i686 1.6.2-3.el6 epel
libdvbv5.x86_64 1.6.2-3.el6 epel
libdvbv5-devel.i686 1.6.2-3.el6 epel
libdvbv5-devel.x86_64 1.6.2-3.el6 epel

All right, it seems to have worked by simply removing the respective library:

Quote:
yum remove libdvbpsi
Then yum install vlc worked just fine and libdvsbpsi has been installed using the nux-desktop repo.

I still don't understand why it behaved like that, so I'd appreciate any advice regarding the the compatibility of the repos that I've listed in my first post.

It's weird that the library was installed using linux-tech, 'cause it seems that this repo is not enabled, and I don't remember having tinkered with its configuration file. Is this repo important? Should I get rid of it?
