Post error unknown file system

I have both windows 7 and linux os.But when I switch on my system,an
error message is appearing which is "error unknown file system:entering
rescue mode".
One day my brother said that as soon as he shutdown the laptop he closed
the laptop suddenly, after that only this error message is coming.

So please kindly help me to rectify this problem.

Since you don't tell us what kind of laptop you have, or what version/distro of Linux you have, how can anyone tell you anything?? What is the EXACT error you're seeing on the screen? What did your brother do to shut down the laptop? What have you done/tried? Unless you provide details, there's nothing anyone can tell you.

Which Linux OS as there are hundreds of different distributions?
Do you have the Linux installation medium or a Linux Live CD? If you do, you should boot it and post more details on your system. I would suggest going to the site below and reading the instructions then downloading and running the bootinfoscript. It should output a results.txt file which you can post here for help:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/bootinfoscript/
