error starting vitual interface...

Hi,

After configuring the virtual IP, I am trying to start, I get this error message. Any idea what I did wrong, below you will see my ifcfg-eth0.0
The server is on VMware, does that make any difference ?

Code:
service network restart
Shutting down interface eth0:                              [  OK  ]
Shutting down loopback interface: [ OK ]
Bringing up loopback interface: [ OK ]
Bringing up interface eth0:                                [  OK  ]
Bringing up interface eth0.0: Device eth0.0 does not seem to be present, delaying initialization.
                                                           [FAILED]

[root@log01 network-scripts]# more ifcfg-eth0.0
DEVICE="eth0.0"
ONBOOT=yes
TYPE=Ethernet
BOOTPROTO=static
IPADDR=x.x.x.x
NETMASK=255.255.255.0

for a vlan interface you'd have "VLAN=yes" in the relevant ifcfg file.

Thank you so much for your help. After adding this line, it worked.

Code:
VLAN=yes
