Exclamation Error: No such Partition. Grub Rescue

I'm french, then my english is not so good but I need help as soon as possible.

I installed Ubuntu Netbook on and old pc I gave to my girlfriend to make her try. It was possible to enter on windows and Ubuntu. To make it short, she didn't like it and I try to erase it by reinstalling windows vista 64. And now I got a black screen with Error: No such partition Grub rescue.

I search everywhere but since I'm a newbie I found nothing.

Important: I dont have any cd drive then I dont have a cd for reinstalling windows.
And I need a solution before she cut my balls and drop them from a moving car.

The pc is a Sony VAIO VGN-NNS190D vista 64 (the cd drive is broken)

I reinstall windows from the reinstallation of VAIO that you can access when booting by pressing F10 (I'm not sure it's F10) you have the option of reinstalling complete system, reinstalling C:,diagnostic of VAIO hardware, recuperation of data? (it's a pseudo-translation my system is in french) I choose reinstalling complete system. I'm able to access it when booting before the "error no such partition grub rescue" and try it a second time but same problem. I try the other option too and same thing happen.

The bootloader from linux is still in the MBR.
Can't you connect an external cd drive, or (temporary) replace the broken one?
So you can boot from the windows CD and install.

Kind regards

Can you boot from usb ?
Then you can install puppy on a usb drive, boot from usb, and clear the MBR
Or if you have a floppy drive, you can use a windows boot floppy, and fix the MBR
http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/linux-h...ninstall-grub/

If all this doesn't work, perhaps it's time to find a new girlfriend :-)

Kind regards

With
Code:
dd if=/dev/null of=/dev/sdN bs=446 count=1
where "sdN" stands for the output of
Code:
fdisk -l
pointing to your partition you can erase the MBR.
Normally a system restore should restore even the bootsector.
You can use a Live Distro on a USB stick to perform actions on your partition.
