Error: No Such Partition
i deleted the linux partition from Diskmgmt.msc under windows vista, and forgot to reset the boot tables,
now when i try to boot to disc it keeps replying with error: No such partition. grub rescue> my system didn't come with a recovery disc and is on a separate partition on the HDD and when i hit F10 to try to load it i also get error:no such partition. grub rescue> ls replies with (hd0) (hd0,msdos2) (hd0,msdos1) and Set replies with Grub rescue> set prefix=(hd0,msdos5)/boot/grub Root=hd0,msdos5 Grub rescue> I'm at a loss as to what to do from here as I can't boot to disc with this fancy error can't load in to recovery partition to load, can't boot from a live ubuntu 11.10 disc and above can't boot from HDD. ubuntu was installed using unetbootin don't know if that helps at all. i paged through the existing fourms and still coundnt find a fix. so i decided to make a new post. |
So assuming you want to remove linux and only have windows on the pc, boot on a windows install cd, enter repair mode and fix the MBR.

1.Use Windows Vista CD/DVD to boot and then start the setup.
2.Setup will automatically detect Current Windows Vista installation and then you can choose repair option and this way your system's MBR will be re-written with the correct entires. -Sandy |
