my website developer has not used a VPS before and is puzzuled at what to do any help will be grateful.

I'll also add that if you've HIRED a website developer, then that's THEIR JOB to diagnose/fix a problem...why are you chasing it down for them? And without knowing version/distro of Linux, what the page(s) are written in, what you're trying to do, etc., there's no way anyone can help you.
