Error Message on Boot Up in Fedora 21

Hi Folks,
I am a relative newbie to linux.
I am running Fedora 21 from an external USB Hard Drive and get the following message after Grub has loaded. Any help in resolving this is very much appreciated.

: [sdb] No Caching mode page found
[ 4.407772]sd 4:0:0:0 [sdb] assuming drive cache: write through
Welcome to emergency mode! After logging in, type "journalctl -xb" to view
Systems logs, "systemsctl rebboot" to reboot, "systemctl default" or ^D to Try again to boot into default mode.
Give root password for maintenance (or press Control-D to continue):
[ 26.078356] ldv: disabled by bios
[ 36.249164]system-fsck[628]: /dev/sdb3: clean, 403/128016 files, 174669/512000

Thanks

Not to sound dumb but what happens when you type in the suggested commands?

Vamps15 02-11-2015 10:07 AM

Hi Snowman
If I press Control-D the system them boots into Fedora 21

Heaven only knows what a caching mode page is, but your solution might be here

Thanks for the link David I will give this a go later this evening

David,

I tried adding the line into /etc/default/grub but this made no difference.
Thanks anyway

I think snowman81 meant what shows when you type
Code:

journalctl -xb
as that would actually show log entries...

Vamps15 02-13-2015 11:55 AM

journalctl -xb highlighted the following in red

sd 4:0:0:0: [sdb] No Caching mode page found
sd 4:0:0:0: [sdb] Assuming drive cache write through
sd 4:0:0:0: [sdb] Attached SCSI disk
fsck failed with error code 4.

Being a newbie this mean next to nothing for me as I did not have this error in Fedora 19. It appeared when I upgraded to F20 and subsequently F21.

EDDY1 02-13-2015 12:10 PM

The only error that is of significat imprtance is this 1
fsck failed with error code 4.

http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=277866

The other 2 are messages that I get From my usb drive, which hasn't given me any problems.

Vamps15 02-13-2015 01:16 PM

Thanks Eddy1 for the info. I will check this out.
Am now thinking of doing a fresh install of F21

EDDY1 02-13-2015 01:34 PM

If you can do a fsck you won't need a fresh install.

Vamps15 02-15-2015 11:44 AM

Hi All,

thanks for the help.
I decided to wipe the disk and do a clean install of Fedora 21 to replace the upgrade.
I no longer get the error message.

No Caching mode page found - solved

Hi
You just need to select a partition from your hard disk or from an external hard disk in which you want to install a linux version.

Now go to disk management and right click on the partition and delete it.

In bios enable the UEFI mode for duel boot.

Now boot to your usb or DVD to install linux. The installer will find an unalocated partition as u deleted it. Hope the installer will not show this error again.

If needed any further asistant plz reply my email adress: arif.nishan2011@gmail.com
