Error Message Madwifi Drivers Atheros Mandrake 10.1 Help

First, Sorry for the overposting on the previous thread. I should have read the rules as a forum newbie....my bad, and won't happen again.

When following the directions for Atheros install on the madwiki website

http://madwifi.sourceforge.net/dokuw...4500624c4a0483

When I get to "make" command I get this message

***
checking if all requirements are met.....FAILED
only kernel versions 2.4.x and above are supported
you have uname -r
make:***[configcheck] error 1

***
I tried in GUI to change install and boot different kernel 2.6 or 2.4.27 and it does, but no mouse support so I can't manuvre or even login.

Any ideas

I think you at least need 2.4.28 anyway for wireless. But you'll need a new kernel for sure and one that works. What's your distro can you install a new preconfigured kernel from your distro. It should have everything in it to be usable.

Distro?

What is my Distro?
I'm so new to this, that I'm on chapter one of the linux book I'm learning from.
When I go and list "all available" in the GUI console - there is a ton of kernel.??.?? and kernel.source.??.?? and so on.
Do I choose an alternate in here. My mouse didn't work last time I changed kernels, but again, I was doing this with no pryor no how.
Thanks for the quick post....

Your distro is your distribution, the flavor of linux you use. Like mandrake or suse or debian for example.

Is that all available a list of packages you can install or so? I can't say more unless I know the distro (then only if I used it but there are others who can take over ;))

Distro I'm Using

Downloadable Mandriva(Mandrake) 10.1

Well I can't help you really much there as I've never used it. I do know mandriva has preconfigured kernels that'll work if you don't have many special things. I think your best bet now is to use one of that. I'm not really sure but IIRC preconfigured ones had mdk or so in it. It at least looks a bit different from linux-kernel-2.6.10 for example. But you might want to ask someone more knowledgeable on mandriva.
