error making modules in linux-2.6.17-gentoo-r8

When I try to do a make I get this error message.

Kernel: arch/i386/boot/bzImage is ready (#3)
Building modules, stage 2.
MODPOST
WARNING: drivers/acpi/processor.o - Section mismatch: reference to .init.data: from .text between 'acpi_processor_power_init' (at offset 0xe64) and 'acpi_safe_halt'

I have tried to compile the acpi into the kernel and then tried just making in to modules but nothing helps. I have tried gogle but did not understand alot of what was said. I am new to linux and gentoo so if some one could help.

Generally when you compile the kernel warnings are ok, it's the errors that you need to watch out for. After compiling the kernel and installing the modules did you try and run your new kernel? If so did you have any problems?

It is ok to ignore the warnings if you are not a kernel or program developer. A kernel or program developer should worry about the warnings.

A warning sometimes means at the right conditions, the kernel or program may goof up and dump its memory and kernel core to the logger. Linux should still function. The Linux kernel is like a tree. Some of its limbs can break off, but the trunk and roots are still there.
