Those aren't really commands they are argyments to the configure script that let you decide which components you want to install. It is up to you whether you need them or not. To get a full list of configure options run:
./configure --help

What is the output of:
find / -name "libpng.*"

I had the same problem just earlier. Searched the forum and found nothing. Then I realized I probably needed the developement libraries. That worked. So go ahead and compile libpng*-dev to solve this problem.

Hello, everyone,

I face the same problem as david_ross, where the system cannot find libpng.
I'm using linux 8.0, for my case,
there are actually libpng-1.2.2 and libpng10-1.0.13 folder found inside /usr/share/doc.
However, both folder only consists of CHANGES, example.c, libpng.txt, README, and TODO.

i don't know where to find libpng*-dev command as taught by atheist.

So, do i need to download libpng.tar.gz file?
or can i do modification in libpng-1.2.2 or libpng10-1.0.13?

Thanks.

I can't say that I've ever had a problem with libpng.

The kernel is only up to 2.6.x - which distro are you using?

This is only the documentation.

You could install froum source or from a package developed for your distro.
