Hi,

the output that you posted from iwconfig tells us that the wireless device in your computer seems to be working. With that piece of information, we can move on to trying to connect to your wireless router. The output of the following command will tell us if your machine sees any wireless routers.
Code:
/sbin/iwlist wlan0 scan
Please run the above and post the output into the forum.

Evo2.

the card isnt on for some reason (some laptops have a hardware switch for some reason) try running this to activate it:
Code:
sudo ifconfig wlan0 up
it should then show up in your network manager applet (also try re-running the command that evo2 suggested).

this post explains what each of those commands do:

Joody:

Your doing good.

Step 1. Now, Evo2 needs the output to what he asked for. Open the terminal and Run:
Code:
sudo ifconfig wlan0 up
Step 2. And, Schneidz needs the output to what he asked you for. Open the terminal and Run:
Code:
/sbin/iwlist wlan0 scan
Step 3. Copy the outputs to these 2 commands the Senior Members need and post back so they can make
a diagnosis and assist you. Take your time and go slow if your new at this.

Hi,

ztcoracat: actually it seems those steps need to be done in the opposite order. Schneidz's post was in response to the output when joody ran "/sbin/iwlist wlan0 scan" as reported in #18.

Cheers,

Evo2.

Your running Ubuntu 12.04 and you have a Lenovo 3000 n200 dual core; got it-

I'm going and looking up your laptop online to see what else I can learn about it to try to help. I found this information about your computer in the hope that it will help all of us.

The website I went to was:

http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-...ok.9088.0.html

Networking
Broadcom NetLink Fast Ethernet (10/100MBit), Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG (abg), Broadcom Bluetooth 2.0 EDR Bluetooth

Connections
1 Express Card 54mm, 4 USB 2.0, 1 Firewire, 1 VGA, 1 S-Video, Agere Systems HDA Modem Modem, 1 Kensington Lock, Audio Connections: Microphone, Headphones, Card Reader: 5-in-1 (MMC, MS, MS Pro, SD, xD), Webcam

I found this thread at ubuntuforums where the member had the exact same Lenovo:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=999578

Hi,

please try to run the scan *after* you bring the device up.

Eg.
Code:
sudo ifconfig wlan0 up
then run
Code:
/sbin/iwlist wlan0 scan

Hi Joody,

Glad it is now working.
Do you understand what the problem was? If so, could you briefly explain?

Thanks,

Evo2.
