Error configuring httpd-2.0.47


I am new to LInux and I am trying to install apache 2.0.47. I have downloaded the file and when I go to configure the file it gives me this "./configure
checking for chosen layout... Apache
checking for working mkdir -p... yes
checking build system type... i686-pc-linux-gnuoldld
checking host system type... i686-pc-linux-gnuoldld
checking target system type... i686-pc-linux-gnuoldld

Configuring Apache Portable Runtime library ...

I don't know where to go from here. Can you make any suggestions?

configure: error: no acceptable C compiler found => Install gcc.
