Unhappy Error code 2

Hi,

I'm getting an error when updating my Linux Distrib.( Ubuntu 8.04)

dpkg: syntax error: unknown user 'jabber' in statoverride file
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (2)

There is no user jabber on the computer.

Can somebody help me.

You occasionally get this type of error when the developer makes a mistake in his install script and includes his user name in some of the install script commands. See if you can find the source and install the package from source.

P.S. If you are handy with scripting you could debug the install script and send the bug fix to the developer.
