Red face Error:cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: fedora

Hi.
I am completely new in Linux and I'm trying to learn as much as I can while doing my job.

I am following directions from a wi-fi card vendor. In it, they require to download Fedora 13 to the laptop, which I have already done so. uname -a displays:
Linux localhost.localdomain 2.6.33.3-85.fc13.i868.PAE #1.

The directions ask to update the kernel with "yum install kernel-PAE". While connected to the internet, when I type that, the following error comes up:
Loaded plugin : presto, refresh-packagekit
Error: cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: fedora
Please verify its path and try again

What does it mean and what file do I need to update with the right path? Please, let me know what other information you need.
Thank you very much

Fedora 13 is extremely ancient and unsupported. The repos are probably not on-line any more. Despite what your wi-fi vendor may tell you, running it these days is not at all a good idea. You should install the latest version of Fedora. If the wi-fi vendor has contributed the driver back to the kernel (as they should), it should get loaded automatically out of the box. There's no reason to be running an unsupported distribution for which bugs and security holes are no longer fixed.

If you need a Red Hat-based distribution with more stability and longer release cycles, you might want to consider CentOS.

Unhappy

Thank you, btmiller. Unfortunately, they do not give me that as a choice.
They give these instructions to other member companies who must do the same. Therefore, I must find a way around it .

In case someone is still curious for the fix of this old Fedora 13, the issue was resolved, as follows:

Under the folder /etc/yum.repos.d, in all the .repo files, the URL references in the mirrorlist line were changed from httpS to http.

The kernel upgrade was successful.

Thank you so much for your time and disposition to help.
