Error 22 and unable to use boot CDs
Hi, I was trying to delete Ububtu off my system today and used gparter to do it, I don't think i did it the proper way so now I have Error 22 popping up everytime I try boot up.
This was a clean system with only Ubuntu installed on it, I'm trying to install Win7 but the boot disc won't recognise I also tried with the origonal Ubuntu disc I booted with the first time that won't boot either. I have also tried rearranging the boot priorities to the cd-drive and cd, I've also removed the harddrive from the boot entirly but to no avail, I read some info about booting from Gstarter or Supergrub but I can't burn a cd till tomorrow, I'd appreciate any help you can give me before I try that thanks |
Anyone?

How did you use Gparted?
did you just delete the partition? if so, you must now format the partition do you have a usb available? and a internet connection? do you have a spare PC that you can boot a LiveCD from? |

Whats the process here then to format it? Thanks for the responce! |
well
a LiveCD is like Ubuntu-9.04 which runs as "live" or it can install to HD isn't that what you used to install Ubuntu? or did you install Ubuntu into windows? or did you use Wubi? Is Ubuntu the only distro you've tried? why do you wanna delete it? a good LiveCD will have all the tools you need um... since your comfy with Ubuntu, maybe use the cd you installed with? using Gparted LiveCD maybe a good idea? Personanly I like PartedMagic, http://gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php http://partedmagic.com/ I made a few livecd's(hint multidistro.com) the newest of which is ThorsHammer http://multidistro.com/fluxboxp/fluxboxp.html download link & info http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...08#post3664408 the process to format the hardrive, using Gparted, just right-click on the line that represents the drive or partition and select "format to..." you can also format it thru the command line how much experience do you have with Linux?? |
Yeah I know what a liveCD is now (thanks google), yeah I installed using the Live Ubuntu CD which I still have however it doesn't want to boot/load etc, even when I change the boot order to give the cd-rom priority, it just doesn't seem to recognise it.
I am going to try a gparter boot disc tomorrow and supergrub but i need to get some CDs to write them to which I'm doing tomorrow, thing is if my Ubuntu liveCD won't work then I'm not sure why one of these ones you've linked me will. Do they also work on a USB? becuase I have a USB stick that I could use if you can. I've got about 2 weeks experience with Linux so not much really, like I said i was trying to delete Ubuntu so I could load Win7 onto my PC I obviously have done it the wrong (and stupid) way, the only reason I'm trying to load with ubuntu is so I can uninstal it properly and then hopefully I can then install Win7. Thanks for the continued help! |
well
bad news: I have no idea how deleting the drive partitions would affect a LiveCD's bootability? it should boot whther theres a drive or no. uhh, yes USB is much better than CD anyway it'll boot faster and on most distro's you can run persistent(i.e. save settings and changes) like a installed system. assuming your usb is fat32? you can put many distros there depending on size of usb how big is it? a nice small distro with gparted, firefox and flash10 is browserlinux-353 http://www.browserlinux.com/ as it says there, you can install to usb using Unetbootin http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/ now, I can trick out that usb to boot many many toolkit distros(rescue, etc) with a great graphical boot menu too http://multidistro.com/hammer/fluxboxp.html I made ThorsHammer to be able to boot from usb with no probs all you gotta do is copy the iso contents to usb set bootflag with gparted and install syslinux to usb Unetbootin can do almost all of this try browserlinux with unetbootin and see if it boots can your PC boot from usb? if not, we can fix that too:) EDIT:ThorsHammer has browserlinux remaster named "RescuePup" as both are Puppy-4.12 |
Thanks for the help, got it running, my disc drive had stopped working so I had to swap it obvious really but someone had to point it out to me sods law it would happen on the day I was changing OP, thanks for all the help!
