This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

I'm trying to install SUSE 9 but getting the following error at the end of the installation proces when the bootmanager is installed
=======Error during installation of GRUB:======
GRUB version 0.93 (640K lower/3072K upper)
grub> root (HD0,1)
filesystem type is reiserFS, partitiontype 0x83

the used hardware is: HP LC2000r 128MB RAM
(but at home on a a dell system I have the same problem, although this system did run suse 7.2 before perfect)
below you find all detailed steps from the installation process..
==============overview installation process===================
booting via CD created from iso file ..\suse\boot\
Update and Kernel panic: VFS unabale to mont root FS on 08:02
Via trial and error I found out that I changed the order of the root and boot partition from the standard SUSE setup.
It seems that GRUB expects fixed drives (SDA,SDA2 and SDA3) for the several files. If you changes the order of root and boot this is not passed to the GRUB setup.
I don't understand yet how it works but this is were the sollution is to be found.
But now that it boots another problem accoured:
Kernel panic: VFS unabale to mont root FS on 08:02
