epic + openssl problem

hi all, thx in advance for any help. having some lib probs with openssl. on RH 8.0. i tried using the patch and libs for the existing epic taht came with my distribution. that did not seem to work so i tried the new epic rls with ssl built in and got lib errors for needing,

libc.so.6
libssl.so.4
libtcl8.4.so

so i reinstalled new openssl and it seemed to install fine, yet i still get lib errors. any help would greatly be appreciated.

Code:
$ldconfig -v | grep ssl
        libssl.so.2 -> libssl.so.0.9.6b
        libssl3.so -> libssl3.so
