encrypted LVM speed

Hi,
I want to install a debian linux on my notebook. I also plan to install debian in a encrypted LVM partition. Is encrypting effect on the speed of linux?
speed is matter for me because my notebook is old(but not too much)

depends on what kind of encryption; the more complex, the slower it gets

Yes, as TKH said, it will always add overhead, and slow things down.
Just how much will depend on a) your CPU, and b) the encryption method
that's used.
