Enabling ffmpeg and universal component

Hi all,

Can anyone tell me how to enable ffmpeg? I have been trying for hours and have googled tons.

I ./configure from motion-svn/trunk and it says all ffmpeg features are disabled.

Even if i ./configure --enable-ffmpeg it is still not enabled.

Also, can anyone tell me how i can check if the universal component is enabled, and if not how to enable it?

thanks in advance

What disribution are you using? What's this "universal component"? What are you trying to compile?

Thank you for the speedy response

Im running ubuntu 7.04.

Whenever i install components it says, make sure the universal component is installed. im not really sure if it is or not, and not even sure if it is that important.

I am tryign to enable ffmpeg for the program 'motion'. I go to /motion-svn/trunk and run the ./configure command there but cant seem to change the status of it. It appears i need this to be enabled for the webcam i am trying to use motion with.
